Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 15: Yoga of the Supreme Person: Text 15

sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyo vedānta-kṛd veda-vid eva cāham

Synonyms: sarvasya — of all living beings; ca — and; aham — I; hṛdi — in the heart; sanniviṣṭaḥ — situated; mattaḥ — from Me; smṛtiḥ — remembrance; jñānam — knowledge; apohanam — and forgetfulness; ca — and; vedaiḥ — by the Vedas; ca — also; sarvaiḥ — all; aham — I am; eva — certainly; vedyaḥ — knowable; vedānta-kṛt — the compiler of the Vedānta; veda-vit — the knower of the Vedas; eva — certainly; ca — and; aham — I.

Translation: I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedānta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.

This verse reveals a profound truth: Krishna is present in the heart of every living being as the Supersoul (Paramātmā). It is from Him that we receive our memory, knowledge, and even forgetfulness. This means that our very capacity to think and remember is a gift from the Lord.

The class discussed the practical implications of this verse: since Krishna is always present in our hearts, we are never truly alone. We can always turn to Him in prayer, and He will guide us from within. This is why the process of bhakti-yoga, which involves constant remembrance of Krishna, is so powerful — it aligns us with the divine guidance that is always available within.

Hare Krishna!
