Verse by Sripad Kulashekara Alwar

Hare Krishna Prabhus and Matajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I would like share a beautiful verse spoken by Sripad Kulashekara Alwar in Mukunda Mala stotra verse 25:

maj-janmanaḥ phalaḿ idaḿ madhu-kaitabhāre mat-prārthanīya-mad-anugraha eṣa eva tvad-bhṛtya-bhṛtya-paricāraka-bhṛtya-bhṛtya- bhṛtyasya bhṛtya iti māḿ smara loka-nātha

"O enemy of Madhu and Kaitabha, O Lord of the universe, the perfection of my life and the most cherished mercy You could show me would be for You to consider me the servant of the servant of the servant of the servant of the servant of the servant of Your servant."

From this verse we can understand that for the purification of our heart and for our advancement in bhakti, we must serve and please the devotees of the Lord. Also, we should be ready to do any type of menial service in order to attract the mercy of the Lord.

The primary reason for engaging in the menial service of the Lord is to understand our insignificant position as the servant of the servant of the Lord and be humble. Srila Rupa Goswami, one of the maha-bhagavat devotees, exhibits his humility by submitting to Lord Caitanya by holding straw in the teeth, then what is our position?

So, it is very important as we progress in our bhakti, to always understand and realize that we are a servant of our Guru-parampara and the Supreme Lord.

Therefore, we should pray sincerely to Lord Caitanya, Srila Prabhupada and Sri Guru to make us understand our position as their insignificant servitor, and imbibe this wonderful verse spoken by Sripad Kulashekara Alwar in our lives.
